01 — Overview

What this tool is

This page gives you direct access to an economic database that stores identification and financial information for companies operating around the world. Each record covers a single company in a single year, so the same company can appear more than once across different evaluation years.

Rather than browsing a static list, you narrow the database down yourself: pick the country the company operates in, the economic sector it belongs to, and the year of the financial evaluation. The tool then returns every matching company record as a readable table, with company identification fields on the left and financial figures on the right.

Behind the form, the tool runs a query against a company table and returns matching rows drawn from a shared evaluation dataset — the same kind of structured recordkeeping a ledger book has kept for centuries, just searchable instead of leafed through page by page.

02 — Purpose

Why it exists

Comparing companies across a sector or a country usually means chasing figures across annual reports, registries, and disclosures scattered in different formats. This tool exists to collapse that search into three choices — country, sector, year — so financial figures that would otherwise take hours to gather sit side by side in one table.

It is built for evaluation, not just lookup: the fields returned (sales, purchases, gross profit, expenses, net profit, assets) are exactly the figures needed to judge how a company is performing relative to its peers in the same sector and year.

03 — Mechanism

How it works

  1. Choose your three filters

Select a country, an economic sector (classified by ISIC Rev.4 code), and a year from the drop-down menus in the search form below.

  2. The tool builds a query

Your three selections are matched against the company table, which stores one row per company per evaluation year.

  3. Matching records are retrieved

Every company whose country, sector, and year match your selection is pulled from the database — identification fields together with its financial figures for that year.

  4. Results are rendered as a table

Matching rows are displayed in a scrollable table beneath the form, with website links made clickable and every value escaped safely for display.

  5. No matches, no data

If nothing matches your three filters, the tool tells you plainly instead of showing an empty table — try a different sector or year.

04 — Required Data

What you need to provide

Every search needs exactly three inputs. There is nothing else to fill in.

Input 1

Country

The country where the company operates, e.g. Egypt. Defaults to Egypt, the dataset's primary coverage area.

Input 2

Sector

The company's economic activity, grouped using the ISIC Rev.4 classification (e.g. "10 — Manufacture of food products"). Sectors are organized under lettered divisions from Agriculture through Public administration.

Input 3

Year

The evaluation year for the financial figures, currently available from 2011 through 2015.

05 — Reading the Results

What each column means

Each row in the results table is one company. The first block of columns identifies the company; the second block reports its financial figures for the selected year.

ColumnWhat it shows
Company name / Email / Telephone / WebsiteContact and identification details for the company. Website addresses are shown as clickable links.
Legal formThe company's legal structure (e.g. joint stock company, limited liability company).
ProductsThe main products or services the company is known for.
Paid capitalThe capital the company has actually paid in, as opposed to authorized capital.
Id company / Year / Sector / CountryThe record's internal identifier and the three filters it matched.
Sales valueTotal revenue from sales for the year.
Purchases valueTotal value of goods or materials purchased during the year.
Gross profitSales value less the direct cost of what was sold, before operating expenses.
ExpensesOperating expenses incurred during the year.
Debit interestInterest expense paid on the company's borrowing.
Other revenuesIncome earned outside the company's core sales activity.
Net profitWhat remains after all expenses and interest are deducted from gross profit and other revenues — the bottom line for the year.
Assets valueThe total value of what the company owns as of the evaluation year.
06 — Worked Example

A practical walk-through

Suppose you want to compare food manufacturers operating in Egypt for the 2015 evaluation year. You would make these three selections and press Search:

Country: Egypt Sector: 10 — Manufacture of food products Year: 2015
CompanyLegal formSalesPurchasesGross profitExpensesNet profitAssets
Delta Food ProductsJoint stock 2,850,0001,960,000890,000 640,000140,5003,410,000

Sample figures shown for illustration — your actual results will reflect whichever companies match the country, sector, and year you select.

07 — Applications

Checking capital, profit, and expense levels as part of a lending or credit-risk review.

Academic research

Building sector-level or cross-country datasets for economic and finance studies.

Market intelligence

Identifying active companies and competitors within a specific industry classification.

08 / 09 — Advantages & Limitations

What it does well — and where it stops

Advantages

  • Narrows a large dataset to exactly what you need with three simple selections.
  • Returns identification and financial figures together in one table, ready to compare.
  • Sector list follows the internationally recognized ISIC Rev.4 classification.
  • Website links in results are automatically made clickable.
  • No technical knowledge required — the interface is a plain search form.

Limitations

  • Coverage depends on which companies and years have been entered into the database — absence from results does not mean a company doesn't exist.
  • Years currently available run from 2011 to 2015 only.
  • Figures reflect self-reported or compiled evaluation data, not live, audited financial statements.
  • A search returns nothing if a company's sector or year doesn't exactly match your selection, even if related data exists nearby.
  • Results depend on three exact filters; there is no free-text company name search.
